Best ratchet straps for moving furniture
How to strap dressers, appliances, and other household loads in a truck without crushing finishes, and why the AUGO kit is the editor's pick for that day.

Moving day is a 1-inch-strap problem until the object is a piano, a machine, or something else that belongs on a marked commercial assembly. Dressers, tables, mattresses, and most appliances are awkward more than they are heavy in the way a flatbed load is heavy. You want several straps, a length that reaches the truck's anchors, and hardware that will not print a hook-shaped dent into walnut.
Keep the finish, and the load, in the truck
- Empty drawers or strap them shut. A drawer that opens on a turn becomes a wedge and a projectile.
- Pad corners with blankets before the webbing goes on. The AUGO soft loops can also take a hook off a finished edge when you are anchoring to the truck rather than to the furniture.
- Put the ratchet body on the blanket or out past the corner, not on the show face.
- Strap a tall piece to the truck's structure at two heights if you can. One strap over the top of a fridge is a hinge, not a securement plan.
- Use the appliance's actual weight, from its spec plate, against the strap's marked working load and against the truck's anchor ratings. Do not borrow a generic weight from a blog.
- Cam buckles are kinder to a soft cabinet. The Rollercam set publishes 350 lb, which is plenty for a light bookcase and not the plan for a loaded tool chest.
CARTMAN's 1-inch 6-pack publishes 500 lb and gives you two more straps than AUGO. That is useful on a light, fiddly load. It is a lower published working load, which is why it is not the pick. The comparison is on the AUGO versus CARTMAN page.

Are ratchet straps safe on furniture?
They are safe when the webbing is padded, the ratchet body is not grinding on a finished face, and you stop as soon as the piece cannot shift. They damage furniture when the ratchet is used like a press.
Which kit does StrapRank favor for a move?
The AUGO 15-foot 4-pack. Four straps cover more than one piece, the published load capacity is 733 lb, and the soft loops and coated hooks are easier on finishes than a bare J-hook.
